
Texas A&M hosts annual NFL Pro Day

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – More than 40 NFL coaches, scouts and player personnel staffers converged on the Texas A&M campus for Aggie football's annual Pro Day on Wednesday at the McFerrin Athletic Center.
Displaying their athletic skills for the NFL were 14 members of the 2015 Texas A&M football team, including record-setting All-America punter Drew Kaser, record-setting 12th Man Sam Moeller, 1,000-yard rusher Tra Carson, record-setting placekicker Taylor Bertolet and multi-year starters Joe Cheek (offensive guard), De'Vante Harris (cornerback), Germain Ifedi (offensive guard and tackle), Mike Matthews (center), Julien Obioha (defensive end and tackle), Alonzo Williams (defensive tackle) and Brandon Williams (running back and cornerback).
In addition to individual drills, the Aggies were tested in the bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 40-yard dash and the 5-10-5, 3-cone and long shuttles.
Matthews, who made 36 starts over the last three seasons, led the way in the bench press with 30 repetitions of 225 pounds, and Obioha (27), special teams ace Devonta Burns (27) and Cheek (24) all posted more than 20 reps.
Carson, who led the Aggies with 1,165 rushing yards in 2015, had the best vertical jump of the day with a 37-inch leap. Right behind were Moeller with a 35-inch effort and Burns with 33 inches.
Harris, who had 24 career passes broken up (PBU) from 2012-15, had the fastest 40-yard dash time with a 4.44 clocking and the fastest long shuttle with a time of 11.38. Other strong 40 times were posted by Burns (4.50) and Carson (4.54), and Obioha had a quick time of 5.07 while weighing in at 285 pounds.
Moeller and Burns, who shared the Aggies' Special Teams MVP honor in 2015, led the way in the broad jump with both players posting leaps of 9 feet, 8 inches. Others with leaps of nine feet or more were Carson (9-7) and Obioha (9-0).
NFL personnel in attendance with Texas A&M connections included former A&M football player/track and field letterman Kyle Caskey (Cincinnati Bengals running backs coach), former A&M offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Steve Marshall (New York Jets offensive line coach) and Klein Kubiak (Denver Broncos player personnel assistant), whose father, Gary Kubiak, was record-setting quarterback for the Aggies from 1979-82.
