Aggies to Face Colonials in NCAA First Round

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 12th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team will open their 23rd consecutive NCAA Men's Tennis Championship appearance Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. against George Washington at the George P Mitchell Tennis Center. Prior to the Aggies and Colonials match, No. 18 Texas (17-11) and No. 55 Lamar (17-5) will face off at 10 a.m.
All students will receive complimentary admission to the matches this weekend, courtesy of Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton.
The two winners will face off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, to determine which team advances to the NCAA Team Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 20-24. Joining Texas A&M as a national seed will be No. 7 Georgia and No. 9 Florida. In addition to the three national seeds from the SEC, six additional teams were named to the field of 64 (Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt).
The Aggies will feature a pair of ranked singles players against the Vols, led by No. 18 Rinderknech. The Paris, France native has been ranked in the top-25 all spring after turning in an impressive fall campaign. The All-SEC First Teamer leads A&M with a 26-11 record this season, including a team-high 14 wins over ITA ranked players. Vinsant moved to No. 52 in the latest ITA poll, the Keller native has an impressive 15-11 dual record, going 13-9 on court two and 2-1 on the top court. Vinsant joined Rinderknech on the All-SEC First Team and is second on the squad with nine wins over ranked opponents this year.
In doubles action, Rinderknech and Withrow lead the charge with a 12-5 record, going 8-5 on the top court and 4-0 on court two. The pair are an impressive 5-5 against ranked teams, pushing them into the Top-10 in this week's poll at No. 8. Rinderknech ranks No. 55 alongside Vinsant, despite the fact that the two have not featured since the calendar turned to 2016. Arconada partners with Lunkin to rank No. 70 this week, the pair are 9-3 this season, including a 6-2 mark in duals and a 1-1 mark against ranked pairs. Vinsant and Catanzariti remained in the latest poll at No. 75, the pair are 4-0 this year and 1-0 against ranked duos. Withrow and Freshman Aleksandre Bakshi round out the A&M contingent in the doubles ranking at No. 89 after going 4-4 on doubles court one including a win over a ranked opponent.
