Davis Family Commits Lead Gift to Texas A&M's New Softball Stadium
May 18, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The 12th Man Foundation and Texas A&M Athletics are proud to announce a significant donation to the school's soon-to-be-constructed softball complex.
Less than three weeks after the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents formally approved plans to build massive new complexes for softball and track and field, longtime A&M supporters Becky and Monty Davis have signed a multi-million-dollar gift agreement to help fund the $28.6 million softball facility.
The donation by the Davises is one of the largest philanthropic gifts ever made to Texas A&M athletics.
The Davises, who have been A&M football season ticket holders since 1977, have previously given significant gifts to the Davis Center for Football Player Development, the R.C. Slocum Nutrition Center, the Bright Football Complex renovation and the Kyle Field Redevelopment Campaign.
But the couple's gift to softball is one that will transform the livelihood of one of A&M's traditionally strong programs. The Aggie softball team has captured three national championships and made seven appearances in the Women's College World Series.
"We are so pleased to be a part of this project," said Monty Davis, A&M class of 1977. "We want this to be the best facility in the nation."
The new stadium will be just that, with seating for 2,000 fans, the addition of club seats, two suites, a new press box, an indoor hitting facility, new locker rooms, a players lounge and team meeting rooms.
Construction will begin this fall, with the stadium set for a grand opening in time for the 2018 softball season.
"This is going to be the best stadium in the country, hands down," said A&M softball coach Jo Evans, who this year led the Aggies into their 15th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance. "It is huge for our program that the Davises have stepped up and been so generous and supportive of our program. Now, we want to live up to their high standards and play hard for them."
Monty graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in accounting, and Becky, class of 1976, studied education. The family lives in Cypress, Texas, and Monty has spent the last 18 years working as Chief Operating Officer of Core Laboratories, an international leader in the oilfield services industry.
"Becky and Monty Davis continue to be pillars of Texas A&M athletics," said Skip Wagner, 12th Man Foundation President and CEO. "Their dedication to our student-athletes is special, and their support of this landmark stadium project will ensure our softball program will continue to be competitive nationally well into the future."
A full story chronicling the generosity of Becky and Monty Davis is featured in the May issue of 12th Man Magazine, which will be mailed this week.
