Texas A&M Women’s Tennis Signee Named to ITA All-Star Team

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Macarena Olivares, who will join the Texas A&M women's tennis team in the fall after playing the past two seasons for ASA College, was named to the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Star Team, the ITA announced. It is the second consecutive year the Santiago, Chile, native has been named to the prestigious team.
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team honors the top student-athletes of the 2015-16 season from all five divisions of college tennis. The student-athletes will be recognized, along with the National Players of the Year and the ITA/Arthur Ashe Jr. National Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winners, at the 2016 Oracle/ITA Arthur Ashe/All-Star Weekend, Aug. 25-27 in New York, New York.
Olivares, a two-time ITA All-American in both singles and doubles at ASA College, and her teammate, Megane Bianco, were named to the 2016 All-Star Team after finishing the season as the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the junior college division.
During her two-year junior college career, Olivares helped guide ASA College to back-to-back NJCAA team titles in 2015 and 2016. Individually, she was a two-time NJCAA Flight 1 doubles champion. In addition, she was the NJCAA Flight 1 singles champion in 2015 and a semifinalist in 2016.
Previously Olivares was a member of the Chilean junior and senior national teams and peaked at No. 578 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings.
