
Texas A&M’s Brandt nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

Texas A&M swimmer Claire Brandt has been named a nominee for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.
Personifying the four pillars of the Award – academics, athletics, service and leadership, Brandt was a four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain for the powerhouse Texas A&M women's swimming and diving program, which posted four top four NCAA finishes and won a Southeastern Conference team title during Brandt's collegiate career.
Brandt, from the Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas, was a three-time NCAA qualifier and earned honorable mention All-America honors as senior in 2016. She ranks among the top 10 fastest Aggies in school history in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. Always a positive teammate, Brandt was voted the team's Jody Tanner-Hansen Optimist Award winner an unprecedented three times.
A 2016 Texas A&M graduate with a degree in chemistry and a minor in Spanish, Brandt completed her bachelor's degree requirements while carrying a 3.810 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. She was the 2016 College of Science nominee for the Brown-Rudder Memorial Outstanding Student Award, which is the highest honor for a graduating senior at Texas A&M. In 2015, she received the Outstanding Achievement Award in chemistry from Texas A&M. She was named to the SEC Honor Roll and the CSCAA Scholar All-America team three times, and she earned Texas A&M Athletic Department Honor Roll status all four years.
Her impressive community service resume includes volunteering at AggiesCan, The Big Event, Twin City Missions with the swimming and diving team, as well as various food drives and book drives with the Phi Eta Sigma scholastic honor society.
