Aug 23, 2016 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M men's tennis program has promoted Kevin O'Shea to assistant coach for the upcoming 2016-17 season, head coach Steve Denton announced.
O'Shea is entering his 11th season with the Texas A&M program, the last four seasons coming as volunteer assistant coach after serving as director of operations for six seasons. During his time as a coach, O'Shea has helped the Aggies to a 95-35 overall record and a program-best Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking of fifth in 2015. The Aggies have made four consecutive trips to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, including an Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen appearance under O'Shea's tutelage. Additionally, the Maroon and White have captured two SEC Tournament Championships and one SEC regular season title since joining the league four seasons ago.
The Houston native began his tenure at A&M as director of tennis operations, helping coordinate the day-to-day operations of the program and oversee the summer camps. His background in coaching contains 10 years with United States Tennis Association as a certified USTA High Performance Coach and a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Certified Professional 1 Coach. Before that, O'Shea was a four-year letterwinner at St. Edward's University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and was named first team all-conference in 1993.
O'Shea and the Aggies are looking forward to a successful 2016-17 season as the team was ranked No. 14 in the final 2016 ITA poll. Texas A&M returners are highlighted by NCAA Doubles Championship runner-up Arthur Rinderknech along with juniors AJ Catanzariti and Jordi Arconada.
