Texas A&M’s 400 IM crew shines at Arena Pro Swim Series at Austin

AUSTIN – Texas A&M's deep 400 IM crew highlighted the Aggies' second day at the Arena Pro Swim Series by putting three swimmers in the Championship final on Saturday at the Jamail Texas Swim Center.

AUSTIN – Texas A&M's deep 400 IM crew highlighted the Aggies' second day at the Arena Pro Swim Series by putting three swimmers in the Championship final on Saturday at the Jamail Texas Swim Center.
 
Making the 400-meter IM "A" final for the Aggies were sophomores Sydney Pickrem and Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo and junior Bethany Galat. Pickrem, the 2016 SEC Champion in the race, led the way with a third-place finish in 4:44.40. Gonzalez-Hermosillo took sixth in 4:49.53, while Galat was eighth in 4:51.79. All three times were qualifying cuts for this summer's U.S. National Championships.
 
The Aggies also put a pair of swimmers in the "A" final of the 50-meter freestyle. Junior Béryl Gastaldello placed fourth in 25.65, while junior Kristin Malone grabbed seventh place in 25.77. Both were qualifying cuts for U.S. nationals.
 
Other Aggies making "A" final appearances on Saturday were junior Lisa Bratton in the 200 backstroke and sophomore Claire Rasmus in the 200 free. Bratton placed fifth in the 200 back in 2:12.72, while Rasmus took seventh in the 200 free in 2:01.69. Both were qualifying cuts for U.S. nationals.
