Orlando, Florida – Kohl Anderson of Texas A&M University and Danielle Galyer of the University of Kentucky has been awarded the male and female NCAS PlayMakers of the Month Award for January 2017.Â

The PlayMaker of the Month Award recognizes the academic achievement and community service efforts of student-athletes at NCAS member institutions. Nominated by coaches, administrators, and teammates, current student-athletes must carry a 3.0 grade point average, and they must be active participants in community/volunteer services and/or social change advocacy.

Anderson is a senior sprinter on the Texas A&M track and field team while also serving as both a student worker and an ambassador for the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.Â
Â
As vice president of Aggies Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Anderson has attended Southeastern Conference SAAC meetings and assisted in planning community service events for Aggie student-athletes; such as Aggies CAN (a canned food drive that raised over $40,000 last year to donate to flood relief in South Carolina and local food bank).

Anderson belongs to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Aggie Athletes Involved (community service organization for student-athletes), and Sports for Kids (a campus student organization whose purpose is to promote involvement of children from the Bryan/College Station community in organized sports activities).

As a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity Anderson's leadership role within the fraternity this year is to be the director of Guide Right, a program that mentors minority children attending local middle schools.
Anderson is pursuing an Industrial Engineering degree and is currently carrying a 3.164 grade point average.Â

Galyer is a senior swimmer on the University of Kentucky swimming and diving team. Galyer is a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team recipient. She is the first Wildcat swimmer to earn CoSIDA first-team honors in nearly two decades (last recipient was 1997-98). She was also named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for two consecutive years. In addition to these honors, Galyer is named an All-SEC Second Team and SEC Community Service Team honoree.
