TALLAHASSEE, Florida- Maddie Szeryk jumped out to the first round lead, shooting a 6-under 66 in the first round of the Florida State Match-Up as the No. 23 Texas A&M women's golf team begins its spring season.
Three Aggies are in the top 25 individually, and all five Texas A&M golfers are in the Top 35 after the first round. Szeryk, who is looking to defend last year's individual championship title, led the Aggies on the par 72 / 6,260 yard Don Veller Seminole Golf Course, and has a one-stroke lead. Bianca Fabrizio is tied for 18th after shooting even- par 72 in the first round. Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a 1-over 73 to tie for 22nd. Courtney Dow and Andrea Jonama are tied at 34th after each shooting 3-over 75.
"We did a lot of good things today," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "I am very proud of what I saw, seeing the girls stick to the gameplan today."
As a team, Texas A&M shot a 2-under 286, good for third place after a round. No. 13 South Carolina leads the tournament with a 10-under 278 and No. 4 Florida State is in second place with a 282 (-6).
The Aggies return to Don Veller Seminole Golf Course for the second round of the Seminole Match Up, teeing off at 9:06 a.m. on Saturday.
