BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the first time this season Texas A&M's Valentin Vacherot has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, announced Wednesday morning by the league office.

Vacherot was the first singles match off the court against Texas Tech, winning his final nine games to defeat Carlos Di Laura. Partnered with cousin, Arthur Rinderknech, to top Ronit Bisht and Alex Sendegeya of Texas Tech to secure doubles point for the first time this season for the Maroon & White. Dropped only three games combined between doubles and singles matches against the Red Raiders.

In the day's second match, Vacherot claimed his first win above court five, clinching the match for the Aggies with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Koby Jansen on court two. The Frenchman doubled his spring win total in one day, improving to 4-2 on the season after winning back-to-back singles matches for first time at Texas A&M.

South Carolina's Gabriel Friedrich, meanwhile, was named the SEC's Player of the Week.

Vacherot and his teammates return to action on the road in two weeks, playing a pair of matches in the Sunshine State. The Maroon & White will take on South Florida on Feb. 24 followed by a Feb. 26 match up with Florida State.
