BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season Texas A&M's Valentin Vacherot has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, announced Wednesday morning by the league office.
Vacherot is currently riding a four match winning streak, all in straight sets, to improve to 6-2 this spring, his first experience in college tennis after enrolling at Texas A&M this spring. The Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France native, extended the match against South Florida as the Aggies faced a 3-1 deficit against the Bulls by topping Pierre Luquet in straight sets.
Completed the 2-0 weekend with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Terrence Whitehurst of Florida State. The win helped the Aggies secure a second straight come from behind victory, evening the team score at 3-all against the Seminoles.
Mississippi State's Nuno Borges, meanwhile, was named the SEC's Player of the Week.
Vacherot and his teammates return to the Sunshine state Friday to open Southeastern Conference play at No. 13 Florida followed by a Sunday match up against No. 19 South Carolina.
