BANDON, Ore. – After back-to-back runner-up showings during its last two events, the Texas A&M men's golf team is back in action at the Bandon Dunes Championship, which will be held March 12-14 on the Old MacDonald Course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
"This is a new event for us this year, but it is to one of the country's best and most unique destinations, Bandon Dunes," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "It will be like playing in Scotland on a seaside links course. It will be a great experience for the guys and I'm excited to see how we handle the elements and a different style of golf."
Texas A&M, which moved up to No. 12 in the most recent Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, highlights the 16-team field which features five squads that currently hold a spot in the national top 25. Joining the Aggies on the links in the Beaver State will be No. 20 Auburn, Boise State, No. 21 Colorado, Denver, Fresno State, Georgia State, Gonzaga, CSU-Northridge, No. 10 Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, Seattle, No. 11 Texas Tech, Utah Valley and Washington State.
The Old MacDonald Course, which pays homage to golf course architect Charles Blair MacDonald, will play at par 72 and 6,893 yards during the event.
Representing the Aggies in the competition will be juniors Cameron Champ and Kavan Eubanks, sophomores Chandler Phillips and Max Miller, and freshman Dan Erickson.
Phillips is enjoying one of the best seasons by an Aggie in recent memory, having already carded six top-10 placings, including two wins, in seven events during his sophomore campaign. His 69.95 scoring average not only leads the Aggies but would set the A&M stroke average record for a single season.
Champ and Eubank, meanwhile, have each carded a trio of top-10 showings this season while also notching an individual win.
