COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies continued their spring successes Monday evening as they toppled Deportivo Saprissa, 6-0, Monday evening in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Aggies overwhelmed the Costa Rican league runners-up, owning advantages in shots (32-7), shots-on-goal (15-3) and corner kicks (7-0) for the game.
Texas A&M broke the scoring seal in the 17th minute when Emily Bates stole the ball at the top of the penalty area and dribbled to seven yards out before punching a shot into the back of the net.
Just over a minute later, the Aggies scored again. Haley Pounds sent a corner kick into the six-yard box where Grace Piper sent a header home for the 2-0 advantage.
The Maroon and White capped off the first half scoring in the 28th minute. Mikaela Harvey sent a pass to Ally Watt, settled in six yards out, and the sophomore punched it past the keeper.
At halftime, Texas A&M had the edges in shots (18-5), shots-on-goal (7-1) and corner kicks (4-0).
After a 20-minute lull to start the second half, late-game sub Claudette Lassandro found the back of the net twice after entering in the 68th minute. She scored goals with an assist from Cienna Arrieta in the 70th minute and Abby Grace Cooper in the 76th minute.
The final tally came in the 89th minute with Grace Piper playing a ball to the end line before finding an open Brittany Crabtree eight yards out, giving Texas A&M a 6-0 lead.
Cosette Morche went the distance in goal, making three saves. It marked the third consecutive shutout for the Aggies this spring as the Maroon and White have outscored opponents 15-0.
The Aggies return to action Thursday night when they battle Costa Rica's top club Moravia, who won the inaugural UNCAF Women's Inter-Club Championship last may along with the 2016 Costa Rican Apertura title last September.
