COLLEGE STATION, Texas—In support of national Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) throughout April, Texas A&M baseball and softball will partner with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to host two "Teal" games to raise awareness for an ongoing issue on college campuses nationwide.
Inspired by sexual violence survivor, activist and advocate Brenda Tracy's impactful talk to student athletes in January, student athletes will be participating in the university-wide "Step In. Stand Up." campaign against sexual violence. United by the Aggie core values, the campaign calls on all Aggies to eliminate acts of sexual violence by stepping in to prevent acts of sexual violence before they occur and standing up for survivors.
On April 8 at 3 p.m. against Auburn for baseball and April 22 at 6 p.m. against Georgia for softball, the Aggies will be wearing teal wristbands, the color of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and have invited opponents to participate as well. There may also be teal accents in the softball players' uniforms.
Additionally, both games will feature a survivor throwing out the first pitch as the Aggies gather on the mound to show their support.
Promotional giveaways will include bubble gun machines with teal stickers at the baseball game and maroon seat cushions with a teal logo at the softball game.
Student athletes will collect donations and hold the giveaway outside the main entrances for both of these venues.
As of April 2, the entire university went teal on their social media Twitter handles including Texas A&M Athletics. Likewise, the Twitter Avatar for softball and baseball will change to teal on both game days.
