VICTORIA, B.C., Canada – Texas A&M senior Ashley McGregor earned a spot on Canada's FINA World Championships team with a runner-up finish in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2017 Canadian Swimming Trials at Victoria's Saanich Commonwealth Place on Thursday night.
McGregor, who earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference and All-America honors in 2017 for the Aggies, placed second in a time of 2:25.32 to qualify for Worlds for the first time. McGregor trailed Kierra Smith, a senior at the University of Minnesota, by less than a second and the pair were both more than two seconds faster than the third-place finisher.
A four-year letterwinner for the Aggies, McGregor helped the Aggies to four top four finishes at the NCAA Championships and the 2017 SEC Championship during her career. McGregor placed in the top 16 at the NCAA meet four times, including first-team All-America finishes in 2013 and 2017. She finished her Texas A&M career ranked in the school's top 10 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
