Texas A&M’s Pickrem qualifies for FINA World Championships

Victoria, B.C., Canada – Texas A&M sophomore Sydney Pickrem earned a spot at the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championships with a victory in the 400-meter IM at the 2017 Canadian Swimming Trials on Friday night at Victoria's Saanich Commonwealth Place.

Victoria, B.C., Canada – Texas A&M sophomore Sydney Pickrem earned a spot at the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championships with a victory in the 400-meter IM at the 2017 Canadian Swimming Trials on Friday night at Victoria's Saanich Commonwealth Place.

Pickrem, who is from Dunedin, Fla., but competes internationally for Canada, outclassed the 400 IM field with a winning time of 4:35.43, which was more than a second faster than the runner-up finisher. She will represent Texas A&M and Canada at the FINA World Championships July 14-30 in Budapest, Hungary.

Pickrem had a huge sophomore campaign with three Southeastern Conference titles (two individual and one relay) and first-team All-America honors in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 and 400 IM at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Pickrem was the NCAA runner-up in the 400 IM while becoming the first Aggie to go under four minutes in the race.
