Pierson and Bhosale’s No. 4 Doubles Ranking Sets Texas A&M Record

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M seniors Rachel Pierson and Rutuja Bhosale are an all-time school record-high No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) doubles rankings, released today. The ranking breaks the previous No. 5 record, set by Pierson and then-sophomore Eva Paalma in the Sept. 15, 2015, ITA fall preseason rankings.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M seniors Rachel Pierson and Rutuja Bhosale are an all-time school record-high No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) doubles rankings, released today. The ranking breaks the previous No. 5 record, set by Pierson and then-sophomore Eva Paalma in the Sept. 15, 2015, ITA fall preseason rankings. 
Pierson also moved to a season-high No. 22 in the ITA singles rankings, marking the second highest singles ranking of her collegiate career. The Princeton, New Jersey, native made a 16-spot jump following a career-best 6-3, 6-2 victory over then-No. 4 Astra Sharma of Vanderbilt on Friday and a 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 triumph over No. 17 Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky on Sunday.
 
Bhosale, from Pune, India, climbed 28 spots to No. 79 in singles.
 
Meanwhile, Texas A&M (14-11, 4-7 SEC), a 4-2 victor over No. 11 Kentucky in the Aggies' final Southeastern Conference home match of the season, ascended one spot to No. 21 in this week's team rankings.

Pierson and Bhosale, a then-season high No. 6 in last week's doubles rankings, are 24-8 overall, including 13-6 in dual matches only, all at the No. 1 line. The pair is 6-3 in SEC matches entering the last weekend of conference play.
 
Pierson is a team-leading 24-11 overall in singles and riding a team-best five-match win streak. She has played all dual matches at the No. 1 line, where she is 14-8, including 5-5 in league play.
 
Bhosale is 18-11 overall in singles, including 12-8 in dual matches. She has played all but one match at the No. 2 position.
 
The Aggies close out the regular season this weekend, taking on No. 23 Tennessee on Friday in Knoxville and No. 2 Georgia on Sunday in Athens. The 2017 SEC Women's Tennis Tournament is slated for April 19-23 at Vanderbilt's Brownlee O. Currey Jr., Tennis Center in Nashville.
