Texas A&M's women's basketball team announced the signing of Emer Nichols (Pearland, Texas/Westbury Christian HS) to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday. The 6-5 center is rated as the No. 14 post player and a three-star recruit by ESPNU HoopGurlz.

Nichols, who ranks as the No. 14 player in the state of Texas according to Joey Simmons of Premier Basketball Report, completes Texas A&M's 2017 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 9 in the country by ESPN HoopGurlz.

"Emer's a left-handed post that's played for championships at Westbury Christian," said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair. "Her upside is extremely high, and working with [current Texas A&M center] Khaalia Hillsman will make both of them even better."

"One of the strengths of our program is developing student-athletes, especially at the post position. Most of our post players have gone on to play professional basketball after graduation, if they chose to go that route," added Blair.

A two-time TABC All-State selection, Nichols averaged 18.8 points and 13.8 rebounds per game in 2016-17, helping Westbury Christian to their second straight TAPPS state title game and a 24-10 record. She earned First Team All-District 7-5A honors and was named to the all-area first team by Houston VYPE.

In addition, Nichols was selected to play in the TABC All-Star game on May 19 in San Antonio.

As a junior in 2015-16, she earned TABC All-State honors after averaging 15.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and four blocks. She helped Westbury Christian to a 30-8 record and the TAPPS 4A state title game, where she scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds in an overtime loss to Dallas Christian.

Nichols is the fifth player to sign with Texas A&M for the 2017-18 season, joining Chennedy Carter (Arlington, Texas), N'dea Jones (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Jada Walton (Lithonia, Ga.) and Kayla Wells (Grand Prairie, Texas).
