No. 5 Aggies Advance to NCEA Championship, Shutout TCU, 16-0

WACO, Texas- The No. 5 Texas A&M Equestrian team will compete for the national title Saturday afternoon after shutting out TCU, 16-0, Saturday morning at the Extraco Events Center.

WACO, Texas- The No. 5 Texas A&M Equestrian team will compete for the national title Saturday afternoon after shutting out TCU, 16-0, Saturday morning at the Extraco Events Center.
 
The Aggies (12-5) are seeking their first NCEA Championship title since 2012 and 12th overall.
 
In Reining, the Maroon and White set the tone for the day by sweeping the event, 4-0. Senior Sarah McEntire had a narrow 141.5-141 victory over Brooke Boyle to kick start the squad. Sophomore Haley Franc downed Carly Lombard, 141-136.5, while junior Madison Bohman's 139 bettered Carly Montemuro's 134.5. Senior Sarah Kate Grider concluded the sweep by topping Rylee Morgan, 137.5-134.
 
Winning Equitation over Fences, 4-0, the Maroon and White remained undefeated. Junior Alex Desiderio defeated Jayme Omand, 175-132, prior to senior Haley Webster downing Patricia Gill, 176-161. Junior Rachael Hake surpassed Carley Barnett, 173-163, while sophomore Rebekah Chenelle concluded the first half, 8-0, with her 179-152 win over Molly Peddicord.
 
Texas A&M continued their perfect meet by winning Horsemanship, 4-0. Junior Avery Ellis opened the event with a 152-144 win over Jamie Cook with sophomore Sarak Orsak following suit after beating Rylee Morgan, 150.5-148.5. Senior Kaci Fisher tallied her 14th victory of the season after closely defeating Megan McMullen 147.5-147. Junior Bailey Cook earned the last point for the Aggies by outscoring Laska Anderson, 149-138, to keep A&M on top, 12-0.
 
The Aggies capped off the meet with their fourth sweep to tally Texas A&M's first complete shutout of the season. Junior Maddie Swem secured the first point by edging out Peddicord 157-135, before senior Anna Rea toppled Omand, 159-127. Chenelle tallied her second victory of the day with her win over Kari Hancock, 169-149, with Desiderio downing Barnett, 174-153, to also notch her second win.
             
The Aggies will face No. 2 Georgia for an all SEC national title competition with opening ceremonies beginning at 2 p.m. Live streaming of the event can be seen online at www.eqsports.net and live stats can be found at www.baylorbears.com.
