SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Following a rainy day in the Pacific Northwest that featured several rain delays, the Texas A&M men's golf team holds seventh place on the leaderboard after two rounds of the NCAA Sammamish Regional.
"Today was a really long day," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We were on and off the golf course a few times and finished up about 13 hours after we woke up for breakfast. It was tough out there, conditions were wet and we did a really poor job of handling it."
The Aggies (287-296=583, +15) will enter Wednesday's final round at Aldarra Golf Club needing to climb two spots in the team standings to advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms Sugar Grove, Ill.
Southern Cal (-5) paces the 14-team leaderboard, trailed by Florida State (-2), Kent State (+1), Penn State (+10), Alabama (+12) and Washington (+13).
"We've got our work cut out for us tomorrow," Higgins added. "We need to show up with a better attitude, a good game plan and ready to face some adversity. We're five shots back of fifth place and going to the national championship. We need to go out and be the best team tomorrow and if we do that I think we'll make it"
Junior Andrew Paysse (69-74=143, +1) continues to stand out as the highest-ranking Aggie on the leaderboard, holding a share of 13th place, just one shot ahead of sophomore Chandler Phillips (71-73=144, +2), who ended the day tied for 16th.
Junior Cameron Champ (72-74=146, +4) will enter the final round in 27th while Brandon Smith (75-75=150, +8) and
Dan Erickson (76-78=154, +12) round out the A&M lineup in 44th and 56th, respectively.
