SUGAR GROVE, Ill.- Texas A&M junior Maddie Szeryk is tied for 13th after the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Szeryk shot a 4-over 76 to start the tournament.
Szeryk is four strokes behind co-leaders August Kim of Purdue and Elodie Van Dievoet of Michigan, who both shot even-par 72 on the 6,343 yard course.
Szeryk, a three-time First Team All-SEC selection, had two birdies in the first round. Players braved cold and rainy weather in the Chicagoland area, as the field averaged nearly nine strokes over par in the first round.
The stroke play portion of the championship runs through May 22, with only the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on advancing teams after 54 holes advancing to the final round of stroke play. The individual with the best score after 72 holes is crowned the individual national champion.
