SUGAR GROVE, Illinois — Texas A&M sophomore Chandler Phillips completed his suspended opening round before turning in another 18 holes of competition Saturday at Rich Harvest Farms during the second day of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.
Â
Returning to the course at 6:30 a.m. following an opening day that was plagued by weather delays, Phillips (73-79=152, +8) completed the final nine holes of his unfinished opening scorecard before moving on to the second round. The Huntsville, Texas, native ultimately ended the day in a tie for 124th in the player standings.
Â
"Chandler really fought hard, but it just wasn't his day," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "He had trouble keeping the ball in play off the tee and hitting fairways so that made it tough to get quality shots. There were a couple of three putts and it turned out to be one of those days where if anything could go wrong, it did. That takes a toll on you mentally and I think he got down on himself a little bit. We're going to regroup and see if we can find some birdies tomorrow and make a run up the leaderboard."
Â
The tournament resumes on Sunday with Phillips slated to tee off at 1:57 p.m. (CT). Complete standings as well as live scoring for the third round can be found at GolfStat.com.
