COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 2017 Texas A&M men's tennis team capped off their 14th appearance in the NCAA Championship Round of 16 with a No. 12 ranking in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. The Aggies finished the season 21-7 overall and captured their second SEC Championship, sharing the trophy with No. 7 Georgia.
Â
The Aggies' 11 SEC wins matched the most conference victories in program history, while the 21 dual victories marked the sixth time a Texas A&M-coached Steve Denton squad has eclipsed the 20-win mark. Texas A&M tallied 14 wins over schools listed in the final poll, including six over teams in the Top-25.
Â
The Maroon & White finished in the Top-15 for the eighth time in Denton's 11 seasons at the helm, having only accomplished the feat six times in the 25 years prior to Denton's arrival. Junior Arthur Rinderknech claimed All-American honors in singles and doubles for the second-straight season, while AJ Catanzariti earned the designation for the first time in his collegiate career. Of Texas A&M's 43 All-Americans all-time, 25 have come under the tutelage of Denton, including the Aggies only player to earn All-American status in all four seasons in Aggieland (Austin Krajicek, 2009-11 singles & 2008-2011 doubles).
Â
The Southeastern Conference placed five teams in the final Top 25: Georgia (7), Texas A&M (12), Florida (14), Mississippi State (18) and South Carolina (21). Ole Miss just missed the Top-25 finishing at No. 27; while Kentucky (29), Arkansas (38), Tennessee (43) and Vanderbilt (46) complete the SEC contingent in the top-50.
Â
The Texas A&M women's team finished No. 16 in the final rankings, the Aggies were one of four SEC teams with both programs in the Top-20; Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. The Maroon & White joins Baylor, California, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Stanford as the only schools in the nation to have both their men's and women's tennis programs in the top-20 in the final rankings.
