COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M second baseman Braden Shewmake was named the District VII Player of the Year, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced during Friday's Super Regional action.
The Wylie, Texas native was the only freshman among the 10 honorees.
It marks the second consecutive season an Aggie claimed NCBWA District VII Player of the Year distinction with Boomer White garnering the honor last season.
Shewmake, who has already garnered Collegiate Baseball National Freshman of the Year, Collegiate Baseball All-America First Team, Baseball America All-America Second Team, SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC First Team recognition, is hitting .335 with 47 runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 68 RBI. He ranks 15th in the nation in RBI (68) and 19th in the nation in hits (89). Shewmake leads all Division I freshmen in hits and RBI.
District VII includes all of the schools in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
