ERIN, Wisconsin — Texas A&M's Cameron Champ continues to make a splash at the 2017 U.S. Open as he owns a tie for eighth at five-under par after two rounds against some of the world's top golfers at Erin Hills.

The Sacramento, Calif., native opened the event with a two-under opening round of 70 on Thursday before returning to the course Friday where he carded 11 pars and five birdies to post a round of three-under par (69).

Standing out as one of only two amateurs to make the cut, the other being Scottie Scheffler [+2], Champ (70-69=139 -5) trails leaders Paul Casey, Tommy Fleetwood, Brian Harman and Brooks Koepka (-7) by just two shots heading into the weekend.

Texas A&M signee Walker Lee saw his run at the U.S. Open come to an end on Friday, missing the cut after being +20 after 36 holes. Former Aggie standout Ryan Palmer, despite firing a three-under 69 on Friday, was also eliminated from contention as the field was trimmed.

The 2017 U.S. Open resumes Saturday morning with Champ slated to tee off 1:45 p.m. (CT) and paired alongside Xander Schauffele.
