Szeryk Wins 117th Women's Western Golf Association Championship

ELMHURST, Ill.- Texas A&M senior Maddie Szeryk won the 117th Women's Western Golf Association Amateur Championship, defeating Dylan Kim of Baylor 3 and 1 in the 36 hole final on Saturday.

Szeryk reached the final by defeating Sophia Schubert, who plays her college golf at Texas in 20 holes in the semifinal, avenging a loss to Schubert in the quarterfinals of last year's event.
 
Szeryk won her quarterfinal match 3 and 2, and defeated Naomi Ko, who plays her college golf at NC State, 2 and 1 in the Round of 16.
 
Szeryk started her run through match play by defeating Michigan State's Logan Otter 4 and 2 in the Round of 64, advancing to face Jessica Ip, who plays college golf at Iowa, 2 and 1 in the Round of 32.
 
Szeryk shot a 1-under 143 over two qualifying rounds, tying for the second-best qualifying score on the par 72 / 6,310 yard course at the River Forest Country Club. Aggie sophomore Courtney Dow shot a 152 (+8) qualifying score to tie for the 20th best qualifying score, and advanced to the round of 32 in the event. Texas A&M sophomore Mackenzie Matthews also participated in the event, tying for 108th with a 168 (+24) qualifying score.
