Texas A&M’s Galat powers into 200 breaststroke final at Worlds

BUDAPEST, Hungary. --- Texas A&M senior-to-be Bethany Galat (Mishawaka, Ind.) powered into the final of women's 200-meter breaststroke as the No. 2 seed on Thursday at the he 2017 FINA World Championships.

BUDAPEST, Hungary. --- Texas A&M senior-to-be Bethany Galat (Mishawaka, Ind.) powered into the final of women's 200-meter breaststroke as the No. 2 seed on Thursday at the he 2017 FINA World Championships.

Galat roared to the No. 2 seed with a school record time of 2:21.86 in the semifinals and joined top seed and four-time World Champion Yuliya Efimova of Russia as the only swimmers under the 2:22 mark. Galat will battle a 200 breaststroke field on Friday of Efimova, Taylor McKeown of Australia, Jinglin Shi of China, Kierra Smith of Canada, Jessica Vall of Spain, Molly Renshaw of Great Britain and Lilly King of the United States.

Also in the 200 breaststroke, 2017 senior Ashley McGregor, representing Canada, placed 14th in 2:25.75 and senior-to-be Esther Gonzalez, representing Mexico, finished 18th in 2:28.71. In the 100 freestyle, junior-to-be McKenna DeBever, representing Peru, placed 38th in 56.95, and 2015 senior Liliana Ibanez, representing Mexico, was 40th in 57.40.
