EAST MEADOW, N.Y. --- Texas A&M junior Jonathan Tybur earned a spot on the award stand with a runner-up finish in the 200-meter breaststroke to highlight the Aggie men's day 2 action on Thursday at the 2017 U.S. Open Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.

Tybur, from The Woodlands, Texas, was the top American finisher in the race and finished in a time of 2:11.62. Tybur had the lead at the 150 mark, but couldn't hold off the hard-charging George Harley of Australia, who finished with a winning time of 2:10.57.

"It was super exciting to finish that high," Tybur said. "I thought the first half of the race went really well for me, but the back half is something I can improve upon. This was a really special race not only for my Aggie family but also because my whole extended family was able to watch me in the finals. "

Also in the men's 200 breast, junior Mauro Castillo Luna won the "C" final (17th overall) with a time of 2:17.16.

In other action involving the men's team, junior Brock Bonetti touched first in the "B" final of the 200-meter backstroke while going under two minutes for the first time with a lifetime-best time of 1:59.44.

The Aggie men closed out the day with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The foursome of freshman Adam Koster, sophomore Angel Martinez, Bonetti and sophomore Mateo Gonzalez finished in a time of 3:25.62.
