EAST MEADOW, N.Y. --- Texas A&M dominated the women's 800-meter freestyle relay to highlight the Aggies' day 3 at the 2017 U.S. Open Championships on Friday at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
The Texas A&M foursome of freshman Katie Portz, junior Kristin Malone, freshman Karling Hemstreet and sophomore Claire Rasmus beat the field by over five seconds on their way to victory in 8:06.06. No strangers to success in the race, the Aggies were the 2017 Southeastern Conference Champions in the 800 free relay and earned honorable-mention All-America honors at the NCAA Championships.
"It was a nice win against strong field of teams," Aggie women's head coach Steve Bultman said. "All four girls had solid splits and I was happy to see them come through with the victory. Our "B" relay also turned in solid splits and placed fifth, so it was good to put two teams in the top eight."
The Aggies' "B" 800 free relay of freshman Sara Metzsch, freshman Golf Sapianchai, junior Lisa Bratton and junior Caitlyn Moon turned in a time of 8:12.45.
