Champ & Lee Solid in U.S. Amateur Championship Opening Round

Texas A&M golfers Cameron Champ and Walker Lee each carded solid opening rounds on Monday as the pair stood out among several Aggies taking their swings at the 117th United States Amateur Championship.

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Texas A&M golfers Cameron Champ and Walker Lee each carded solid opening rounds on Monday as the pair stood out among several Aggies taking their swings at the 117th United States Amateur Championship.
 
Champ, a rising senior, and Walker, an incoming freshman, each fired rounds of even par 70 at Riviera Country Club to hold shares of 28th place with just one round of stroke play remaining. Following Tuesday's round, the field will be cut down to 64 golfers who will compete in match play whi­ch begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday when a championship match of 36 holes will determine a champion.
 
Also competing in the field is current Aggie Kavan Eubank (77, +7) who owns a share of 212th place alongside recent A&M graduate Adrià Arnaus (77, +7). Jake Goodman (80, +10), a recent A&M graduate transfer and current UTSA golfer, holds a share of 280th.
 
The opening two rounds of the event are split between Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Champ, Eubank, Lee and Goodman each competed at Riviera Country Club on Monday and will take their swings at Bel-Air Country Club Tuesday. Arnaus, meanwhile, played his opening round at Bel-Air Country Club and will move to Riviera Country Club for the second round. Match play competition will take place exclusively at the championship venue, Riviera Country Club.
 
The U.S. Amateur Championship resumes Tuesday morning with the Aggie contingency slated to tee off shortly after 2:20 p.m. (CT). For more information, including live scoring, visit http://www.usga.org/championships/2017/u-s--amateur.html
