COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Aggies head baseball coach Rob Childress announced the addition of Jeff Christy to his staff Tuesday. Christy will serve as the squad's volunteer assistant coach.

"Jeff is a great addition to the staff," Childress said. "I've had the honor of knowing Jeff as a player during our time at Nebraska. Watching him grow into the coach, the husband and the father that he is, from afar, has been something special. I feel truly blessed to have him as a part of our program. I know he is going to make us better in each and every way."

Christy will mentor the catchers as well as handling duties pertaining to on-campus recruiting and development of scouting reports.

"It's an honor and a privilege to work at Texas A&M," Christy said. "I look forward to the opportunity to work with an outstanding coaching staff. It's an exciting time to be in Aggieland and I'm eager to get to work."

Christy arrives in College Station with seven years of collegiate coaching experience.

Most recently he served as an assistant coach at the University of Central Oklahoma for two seasons. In his two years on staff the Bronchos posted a 67-43-1 mark, including a 37-21-1 campaign in 2017 that saw UCO advance to the Central Regional final in their first NCAA Division II Championship appearance since 2006.

Christy served as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Nebraska, from 2012-15. He also spent the 2011 season on the staff at Wichita State.

As a player at Nebraska, Christy caught a school-record 64 games as a junior in 2005, hitting .236 with 32 RBI while throwing out 45 percent of opposing runners, including 8-of-11 in the postseason. An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2006, Christy hit .284 with eight home runs and 32 RBI, while leading the Huskers to 42 wins and a No. 6 national seed.

Christy started his playing career at Barton County Community College, earning All-Jayhawk League First Team in 2004 and Honorable Mention in 2003.

After his collegiate career, Christy was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He reached Triple-A in 2008 and 2009, playing for the Rochester Red Wings. He spent the 2010 season with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association and was named an All-Star while hitting .289 with 40 runs, 82 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 39 RBI.

Christy earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in 2007. He and his wife Michelle were married in 2007 and have daughter (Quinn) and twins (Griffin and Stella).

Christy replaces Jake Carlson who accepted a full-time position on the UTSA baseball staff.
