Texas A&M’s Quah, Sapianchai shine at Southeast Asia Games

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Texas A&M swimmers Jing Wen Quah and Golf Sapianchai both earned medals on Day 1 of the 2017 Southeast Asia Games on Monday at the Bukit Jahil National Aquatic Center.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Texas A&M swimmers Jing Wen Quah and Golf Sapianchai both earned medals on Day 1 of the 2017 Southeast Asia Games on Monday at the Bukit Jahil National Aquatic Center.

Quah, an incoming freshman from Singapore, won the gold medal in the women's 200-meter butterfly in a time of 2:12.03, which also broke the old Singaporean national record of 2:12.63 set by Tao Li at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Later, Quah teamed with her sister Ting Wen Quah, Amanda Lim and Natasha Ong to lead Singapore to the victory in the 400-meter freestyle relay in a national and meet record of 3:44.38.

Sapianchai, from Samut Prakan, Thailand, also made the award podium in the 400 free relay after helping lead Thailand to a silver medal effort in a time of 3:46.46.
