Texas A&M’s Rasmus tallies relay silver medal at WUGs

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Texas A&M sophomore Claire Rasmus earned her second medal of the meet with a silver medal effort with Team USA's 800-meter freestyle relay at the 2017 World University Games.

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Texas A&M sophomore Claire Rasmus earned her second medal of the meet with a silver medal effort with Team USA's 800-meter freestyle relay at the 2017 World University Games.

Rasmus, from New Orleans, La., teamed with Katherine Drabot, Kathryn Drabot and Ella Eastin to touch in 7:55.32, just behind Russia's foursome that finished in 7:55.28. Rasmus led off in a swift 1:58.85, which was just .01 behind Russia's leadoff leg. Previously, Rasmus had won a bronze with Team USA's 400 free relay.

Rasmus also advanced through two rounds of the 200 freestyle and goes into Friday's final as the No. 7 seed. She turned a time of 1:59.93 (second-fastest) in the morning prelims and 1:59.47 in the evening semifinals.

In action at the 2017 Southeast Asia Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, incoming freshman Jing Wen Quah, representing Singapore, placed fifth in the women's 100 free in 56.12 and 2017 freshman Golf Sapianchai, representing Thailand, was right behind in sixth place in 56.59.
