BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas A&M senior standout Cameron Champ was selected as July's Southern Golf Association (SGA) Amateur of the Month, his second time receiving the honor after earning recognition last December by virtue of his victory in the Patriot All-America Invitational.

Coming off an impressive junior campaign in which he earned All-America, All-Central and All-SEC honors, the Sacramento, Calif., native began the month of July by winning the rain-shortened 114th Trans-Miss Amateur Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club, Kan. with nine-under par 201 for a four stroke victory.

Merely a week later, he placed second at the 51st Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash. by one shot behind U.S. Amateur runner-up Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Ill.

Earlier this summer, Champ competed in his first U.S. Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin where he finished tied for 32nd.

His success this year led him to being named to the 10-man U.S. Walker Cup Team that will compete against its counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland on September 9-10 at The Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.

Champ is currently the number four ranked amateur in the world according to Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking and number eight by the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Winners of the SGA's monthly award are determined by a national panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists.Â
