MADISON, Wisc. – During its first action of the 2016-17 campaign, the Texas A&M men's golf team leads the pack after the opening round of the Badger Invitational at the University of Wisconsin Golf Course-University Range.

Led by junior All-American Chandler Phillips, who tops the individual standings, the Aggies (276, -12) hold a nine-shot advantage over host Wisconsin (-3) heading into the final two rounds of the event which will take place over Monday & Tuesday.

"Today was a great round of golf as well as a great group effort," Texas A&M assistant coach Brian Kortan said "It was nice to get the season off on the right foot. Our three upperclassmen led the way today, they really finished strong with a great back nine."

Phillips (66, -6) got his day off to a hot start with an eagle on the par-5 second hole and carded four birdies along the way before notching a second eagle at No. 16. The Huntsville, Texas, native tops the leaderboard with a one-shot lead over Jordan Hahn of Wisconsin.

Three more members of the Aggie lineup own spots in the top 10 of the player standings with senior Andrew Paysse (69, -3) in a tie for third, redshirt sophomore Brandon Smith (70, -2) in a tie for sixth and freshman Reed Ramsey (71, -1) checking in at 10th.

Freshman Walker Lee (74, +2), who joined Ramsey in making his collegiate debut, holds a share of 43rd after the tournament's initial 18 holes.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Josh Gliege fired a two-under 70 on Sunday to hold a share of sixth.
