THE WOODLANDS, Texas- Two time All-American Maddie Szeryk shot a 7-under 135 over two rounds on Monday, leading the Texas A&M women's golf team on the first day of the Jim West Challenge. The Aggies shot a 3-over 571 over 36 holes at The Club at Carlton Woods to sit in fifth place.
Szeryk sits in a tie for second place after two rounds, five shots back of Leona Maguire of Duke. Szeryk birdied four straight holes on the back nine of the Monday's second round to climb up the leaderboard, and post her third straight under-par round.
Sophomore Courtney Dow is tied for 13th after shooting 2-under on Monday. She had an opening round 66 on the par 71/6,010 yard Fazio Course, not posting a score over par until her 29th hole of the day.
Freshman Amber Park is tied for 27th at 3-over, shooting 145 (71-74) on Monday. Morgan Lay is tied for 54th at 9-over (75-76=151) and Ariana Saenz is 67th at 16-over (80-78=158) to round out the Texas A&M lineup.
Playing as individuals, Texas A&M freshman Elizabeth Caldarelli is tied for 25th at 2-over (68-76=144) and Texas A&M junior Chloe Velasco is tied for 32nd at 4-over (73-73=146).
Duke leads the tournament at 26-under 542 after two rounds.
