COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Three members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team will kick off the fall tournament season as well as their Aggie careers Friday as they begin competition at The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas.
Freshmen Dorthea Faa-Hviding, Iulia Ivascu and Riley McQuaid will be donning the maroon and white for the first time when they open the three-day tournament at The Racquet Club.
"We are very excited to get the fall season going," said Mark Weaver, who is beginning his third season as head coach of the Aggies. "We have a great group of freshmen who are excited and ready to get after it. We have had a bit of a limited schedule in getting prepared for this event, but Coach [Jordan] Szabo and I couldn't be more pleased with how the girls have been practicing and getting after things."
Ivascu is the No. 4 seed in the 32-player singles bracket and opens play against Jackie Carr of Arkansas. Faa-Hviding is the No. 8 seed and will face Whitney Williams of Abilene Christian. McQuaid opens her career against Tamara Arnold of Tyler Junior College.
Ivascu and McQuaid are the No. 1 seed in doubles and have a first round bye. Faa-Hviding will team with TJC's Maria Shishkina, who is the No. 1 seed in singles, and they will face Joy Chia and Sofia Murcia of Texas State in the opening round.
Other schools represented at the three-day tournament include, Alabama-Birmingham, Illinois, Nebraska, Texas-Arlington and Texas Tech.
