Texas A&M Ranked No. 1 in NCEA Preseason Poll

COLLEGE STATION -- The defending NCEA champion Texas A&M equestrian team enters the 2017-18 season ranked No. 1 in the NCEA Preseason Poll, it was announced Tuesday.

COLLEGE STATION -- The defending NCEA champion Texas A&M equestrian team enters the 2017-18 season ranked No. 1 in the NCEA Preseason Poll, it was announced Tuesday.
 
The ranking marks the second time Texas A&M has begun the season ranked No. 1 and the first time since 2012-13.
 
The Aggies top the list followed by Georgia, Auburn, Oklahoma State and Baylor. Rounding out the top-10 are TCU, South Carolina, SMU, Fresno State and Delaware State.
 
The Maroon & White return four NCEA All-Americans from last year's squad including first team honorees, Avery Ellis and Rachael Hake. Ellis was named the NCEA's Horsemanship Rider of the Year following a 13-4-1 junior season. Hake broke the school record for most wins in Equitation over Fences with a 16-2 mark and closed the season on an 11-meet winning streak.
 
Also returning are Reining All-Americans Madison Bohman and Haley Franc. Bohman went 12-4-1 last season with four Most Outstanding Player honors while Franc led the Reining squad in wins with 13.
 
The Aggies begin the season on Friday, Sept. 22, at Fresno State and face South Dakota State on Sept. 23 in Fresno. Friday's meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. while Saturday's is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
