Aguilar Advances to ITA All-American Qualifying Draw

TULSA, Okla. – Texas A&M men's tennis freshman Juan Carlos Aguilar won two more matches at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship Pre-Qualifying Sunday. Aguilar will join teammate Val Vacherot in Monday's Qualifying Draw singles first round action followed by a couple doubles matches for the Aggies.

TULSA, Okla. – Texas A&M men's tennis freshman Juan Carlos Aguilar won two more matches at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship Pre-Qualifying Sunday. Aguilar will join teammate Val Vacherot in Monday's Qualifying Draw singles first round action followed by a couple doubles matches for the Aggies.
 
The University of Tulsa is hosting the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship for the 13th straight season, with matches taking place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Qualifying singles and doubles are set for Oct. 2-3, with main draw matches scheduled for Oct. 5-9.
 
Aguilar won a pair of matches for the second straight day, defeating Petr Vodak of Buffalo 7-6(5), 6-3 before clinching his spot in the qualifying draw with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Jack Mingjie Lin of Columbia. The freshman will take on No. 70 Alberto Barroso-Campos of South Florida in Monday's Qualifying first round at 8:00 a.m. No. 93 Valentin Vacherot will begin play in Tulsa with a 10:00 a.m. match against Dominic West of New Mexico.
 
The Aggies doubles teams will kick off play with a pair of matches Monday afternoon. Junior Kevin Lam and Vacherot will face off against Andy Andrade and Chase Perez-Blanco of Florida at 1:00 p.m. while Aguilar and Senior Jordi Arconada will take on Ricky Hernandez Tong and West of UNM at 2:00 p.m.
 
Lam dropped a pre-qualifying consolation match 6-3, 6-2 to Will Matheson of Columbia.
 
In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 1-5, in Palm Desert, California. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
