Texas A&M Men’s Tennis Claim Six Wins on Day One of Texas ITA Regional

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's tennis team picked up six wins on day one of the 2017 Texas ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle to the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Matches began Thursday and are scheduled to conclude at Monday's singles and doubles championship matches.
 
Freshman Juan Carlos Aguilar topped Cole Lawson of Abilene Christian 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 and will take on Reese Stalder of TCU on Saturday. No. 108 AJ Catanzariti picked up a three-set win; 4-6, 6-1, 6-4; over Joey Vatanadilok of Incarnate Word and is set to face Sebastion Santibanez of Lamar in the Round of 32. No. 36 Jordi Arconada bested Kai Breitbach of UTSA, 6-1, 7-6, and will match up against Oscar Janglin of Rice on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Kevin Lam fell to Benjamin Schweizer of Lamar, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, before rebounding to defeat Gardiner Perotti of SMU, 4-6, 6-4, 16-14 in the consolation draw. Lam will take on Sansidh Kommajaru of UTA in the Consolation Singles Fourth Round Saturday morning.
 
Arconada and Lam teamed up to pick up a pair of doubles wins on Friday, defeating Mohamed Abdel-Aziz and Jacob Halle Eskeland of Rice, 8-3, and Zane Kohrs and Michael Loyd of UTRGV, 8-2. The Maroon & White duo will take on Bjoern Petersen and Constantin Frantzen of Baylor in Saturday's quarterfinals.
 
Play is set to resume at 8:00 a.m. (CT) Saturday and will continue as long as weather allows. Semifinals of doubles and singles are set for Sunday with the finals to commence on Monday.
