Alpharetta, Ga. – The Texas A&M men's golf team stands tied for 10th after 36 holes of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.

Senior Cameron Champ (72-66=138, -6) stood out as the Aggies' top performer on Saturday as the All-American surged 29 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for ninth with a round of six-under. The Sacramento, Calif., native carded five birdies before ending his round with an eagle on the par-five, 564-yard 18th hole.

"We played well today, shot nine-under as a team and got a great round out of Cam," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We were solid but there are just so many good teams here and the course is playing pretty easy so we didn't make up any ground. We're still in the thick of things with three guys in the top-20, but it's going to take all five guys tomorrow to put a good score on the board and make a run."

A pair of Aggies share 17th place in the player standings as both Chandler Phillips (69-71=140, -4) and Andrew Paysse (71-69=140, -4) sit at four-under par after 36 holes of competition.

Sophomores Josh Gliege (76-73=149, +5) and Brandon Smith (80-74=154, +10), meanwhile, round out the A&M lineup in ties for 67th and 77th, respectively.

The Aggies (288-279=567, -9) saw a nine-shot improvement over their opening round, but competition was tight as all but one team on the 15-school leaderboard was below par Saturday. Wake Forest (-23) paces the field with Texas (-18), Duke (-18), Georgia Tech (-15) and Oklahoma State (-13) rounding out the top five.

"We're only a couple shots out of sixth, four shots out of fifth," Higgins added. "It's a really bunched up leaderboard so every shot is precious."

The tournament concludes Sunday morning with the Aggies set to tee off at 9:41 a.m. (CT) alongside golfers from Clemson and Virginia. Live scoring and results for the Aggies can be found on golfstat.com as well as live updates via twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
