Texas A&M Finishes Ninth at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate
Oct 22, 2017 | Men's Golf
Alpharetta, Ga. – Playing in its final event of the fall, the Texas A&M men's golf team turned in a ninth-place showing at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
"Obviously, that was not the way we wanted the fall to end," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "It goes to show you, that no matter how good a team you've got or how good a season you're having, if you come to an event like this with so many good teams on a good golf course you've got to bring your best, physically and mentally. We didn't do a very good job of that, especially today."
Texas A&M (288-279-284=851, -13) was four-under par during Sunday's final round, but was unable to build momentum for a run up the leaderboard. Oklahoma State (-27), meanwhile, took the team title ahead of Texas (-24) and Wake Forest (-22).
"It's disappointing, but we still shot 13-under par. So if that's a bad week for us then I think we're going to be ok," Higgins added.
Junior All-American Chandler Phillips (69-71-70=210, -6) turned in his third round below par with a two-under 70 on Sunday to end play in a tie for seventh and record the 17th top-10 finish of his career.
Seniors Cameron Champ (72-66-73=211, -5) and Andrew Paysse (71-69-72=212, -4) were one shot apart after 54 holes, finishing in ties for 12th and 23rd, respectively. The A&M lineup was rounded out by sophomores Brandon Smith (80-74-69=223, +7) and Josh Gliege (76-73-78=227, +11).
Following the winter break, the Aggies will return to competition Jan. 29-30 when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Arizona Intercollegiate.
