COLLEGE STATION, Texas –Junior Kevin Lam and Senior Jordi Arconada of the Texas A&M men's tennis team advanced to the 2017 Texas ITA Regional Championships doubles final with a win Sunday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Arconada and Lam bested Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles of Texas, 4-6, 6-4, 16-14 to advance to the regional championship against Jackson Cobb and Alexander Sendegeya of Texas Tech. The Maroon & White duo will face off with the Red Raider pair at 10:00 a.m. (CT) Monday after claiming four wins over the weekend in College Station.
Lam claimed the consolation draw championship with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Roberto Rosales of SMU and a walkover win against Pyry Hyrkkonen of Texas Tech. The Texas A&M junior picked up wins against opponents from SMU, UTA and Lamar at the regional.
No. 36 Arconada bested John Mee of Texas in the main draw quarterfinals, 7-5, 6-3, before falling 6-4, 7-5 to Johannes Schretter of Baylor in the semifinals. The Argentinian improved to 5-2 this fall after a quartet of wins over the weekend.
Monday's championship matches are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (CT) as Arconada and Lam take on Cobb and Sendegeya of Texas Tech in the doubles final, while Schretter and Telles showdown in the singles final.
