COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Farmers opened play in the annual Omaha Cup Championship Series with a 13-8 win over the Plowboys thanks to huge offensive days from Will Frizzell, Michael Helman, Braden Shewmake and Cole Bedford

The Farmers opened their offensive output in the first inning putting up an early run off starter Stephen Kolek. After a Frizzell triple, Shewmake knocked in the ice breaker with a single.

Bedford tacked on two runs in the second inning with a long blast to left-center that put the Farmers ahead 3-0. In the third, after an error plated one run, Bedford again drove in a pair, this time with a double to left-center putting the Farmers up 6-0.

The Plowboys answered the Farmers, scoring an unearned run off Kaylor Chafin in the fourth on an Aaron Walter's double, but the Farmers responded with one run in the fourth and fifth to push the lead up 8-1. Shewmake and Bedford again contributed with RBI base hits.

The Farmers erased all doubt putting up a five-run sixth off reliever Nolan Hoffman. They were aided by an error and a two-out double by Jorge Gutierrez to take a 13-1 lead.

Plowboys chipped away with seven late runs off Landon Miner before all was said and done, including a two-run shot from the bat of Chris Andritsos in the ninth.

Chafin earned the win for the Farmers throwing 5.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run to go along with five strikeouts.

Game two in the Omaha Cup is set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday before the series wraps up with three games next week.
