Texas A&M’s Vacherot advances to Consolation Draw Semifinals

TULSA, Okla. – Texas A&M men's tennis sophomore Valentin Vacherot advanced to the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Consolation Semifinals after winning twice Saturday in Tulsa.
No. 93 Vacherot topped Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State to begin play Saturday morning, winning 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the consolation draw quarterfinals. Vacherot advanced to the semifinals with an impressive three-set win over No. 101 Walker Duncan of Georgia; 6-7(4), 7-6(9), 6-3. The Frenchman will take on Duncan's teammate, No. 32 Nathan Ponwith, Sunday.
Freshman Juan Carlos Aguilar and senior Jordi Arconada saw their run in the doubles draw come to an end at the hands of No. 19 Willi Little and Johannes Schretter of Baylor; 6-1, 6-4. The A&M pair picked up ranked wins against No. 30 Alberto Barroso-Campos and Peter Bertran of South Florida and No. 2 Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski of Georgia this week in Tulsa. The A&M pair were the first Aggie duo to advance to the All-American Quarterfinals since Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo made the semifinals in 2014.
The University of Tulsa is hosting the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship for the 13th straight season, with matches taking place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 1-5, in Palm Desert, California. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
