Softball Continues Fall Play Against Temple

COLLEGE STATION –Texas A&M softball squares off against Temple College Tuesday with a doubleheader at the Aggie Softball Complex. Game one begins at 4:30 p.m., while game two is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start. Admission to the games is free.

The Maroon & White are coming off a sweep against Blinn on Nov. 1, defeating the Buccaneers, 10-0 and 7-0. The Aggie pitching staff combined to strikeout 21 in 14 innings and was led by Samantha Show, who tossed a perfect game in game one, striking out eight. In game two, Trinity Harrington gave up one hit in 5.2 innings of work, fanning 11. Payton McBride retired four while striking out two in 1.1 innings to close out the game.
 
Sarah Hudek led the way offensively against the Buccaneers, going 5-for-6 on the night with a triple, home run and three RBIs. The Aggies recorded 23 hits against Blinn, 11 of which were for extra bases.
 
Blake-Ann Fritsch leads the Texas A&M offense in the fall with a .750 average and holds the team lead in hits with six. Ashley Walters leads the team in home runs with two and has driven in six runs.
 
Temple is coming off of a 39-17 year and is led by AmyAnn Loeffler, who was fourth on the team in batting average at .379 and held a team-high 10 home runs and 43 RBI in the 2016-17 season. In the circle, the Leopards return Dalilah Barrera, who finished her freshman campaign with a 14-4 record and 1.55 ERA.
 
Aggie right hander Lexi Smith faces her former team where she posted a 50-14 record and struck out 734 batters in her two seasons with the Leopards. As a freshman, she held a 0.91 ERA and earned NJCAA Region 5 All-American honors after her sophomore year performance with a 1.31 ERA with 17 shutouts, five of which were no hitters.
