Four Aggies scored in double figures as Texas A&M earned a 83-65 win over Houston to start the 2017-18 season. Chennedy Carter had an impressive debut, becoming the first freshman to start at point guard for Texas A&M since 2004-05. Carter had 15 points, which tied the school record for a freshman debut, to go along with five assists in the victory.
The Ragin' Cajuns defeated New Orleans 66-57 on Friday to reach the second round. Simone Fields led the Cajuns with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Skyler Goodwin added 13 and Danyale Bayonne had 11. The Ragin' Cajuns won 20 games in 2016-17, but were shut out of a postseason bid.
Several promotions are in store for the game, as Military Appreciation Weekend continues. Active duty and retired military and first responder personnel can request two free tickets, and additional tickets starting at $3, for Sunday's game at 12thMan.com/military.
This is the first Take A Kid To The Game promotion of the season, as the purchase of one adult ticket at the ticket window allows up to four kids to get into the game free (not available in advance). Once inside, Sunday's Kid's Court features a bounce house, face painting, balloon animals and hoops fun, located on the practice court in the Cox-McFerrin Center.
The winner of this game faces Drake or No. 11 Oregon in the Preseason WNIT Semifinals. The loser of this game finishes the tournament with a consolation game later this week.
