RECAP: Women’s Tennis Concludes Fall Slate at Rebel Invite

LAS VEGAS –Texas A&M reached the finals in both the No. 1 singles flight and the No. 1 doubles flight and won the No. 3 singles consolation to highlight its fall season finale at the Rebel Invitational, hosted by UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
"The fall season comes and goes very quickly and we have a group that is learning, working hard and preparing well for our spring season," A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "We are all on a mission to continue to improve and ready ourselves for when January comes around."
Aggie senior Macarena Olivares reached the finals of the No. 1 singles draw, but fell to Aiwen Zhu of UNLV, 6-3, 6-4, in today's championship match.
In the No. 1 doubles draw, A&M's Domenica Gonzalez and Eva Paalma reached the championship match, where they fell to Zhu and her partner, En Pei Huang, 8-1
In other matches today, Aggie freshman Riley McQuaid won the No. 3 singles consolation, defeating Samantha Li of UNLV, 6-0, 6-2. Her other two freshman teammates also closed out the tournament with wins today as Dorthea Faa-Hviding defeated Anna Bogoslavets of UNLV, 6-3, 6-3, to take third place in the No. 2 singles draw, and Iulia Ivascu defeated Celina Buhr of Grand Canyon, 6-4, 6-4, to take seventh place in the No. 2 singles draw.
"It was nice to see our three freshmen who competed here in Vegas, go 3-0 in singles on the last day," Weaver added. "Macarena also had a very good tournament and has improved a lot since last season to have a very good performance this fall."
A&M's complete tournament results are listed below.
While the tournament is the Aggies' final competition of 2017, A&M will compete in the Hawaii Invitational in Honolulu, Jan. 6-8, 2018, before beginning team dual match play on January 13.
