COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M softball closed out the fall slate with the Maroon and White Series finale in which Maroon won, 9-4, to clinch the series Thursday night at the Aggie Softball Complex.
White jumped on top early with a two-run bottom of the first. After a Blake-Ann Fritsch single, Kelbi Fortenberry sacrificed her to second and reached on an error. With both runners in scoring position, Sarah Hudek drove in Fritsch with a sacrifice fly and Samantha Show brought home Fortenberry with an RBI groundout.
White starting pitcher Trinity Harrington worked two innings allowing just one baserunner via a walk. She was relieved by Peyton McBride, who was tagged for two in her first inning as Kaityn Alderink and Tori Vidales provided the RBI singles.
White answered right back off Maroon reliever Lexi Smith in the bottom of the third. Show almost went yard with a double off the left field wall scoring one. Smith was able to keep the lead there stranding a pair in scoring position.
Maroon tied it back up and grabbed the lead for good by putting a four-spot up in the top of the 4th. They did their damage with the bases loaded, working a hit by pitch, walk, a single and sacrifice fly to account for their four runs.
Kristen Cuyos cut into the advantage with a solo shot in the bottom half, but that was all White could muster for the game.
Maroon tacked on three more in the sixth to bring the score to 9-4 highlighted by a two-run no-doubter off the bat of Vidales.
Hannah Mayo closed out the final three frames for Maroon to secure the victory in the game and series.
Maroon piled up their nine runs on just seven hits thanks to three White errors. Seven different pitchers were used across both teams in the game with Smith getting the win, McBride earning the loss and Mayo registering a save.
The Aggies open the 2018 season against Houston on Feb. 9th in the Aggie Classic at the Aggie Softball Complex.

On the fall…
"It was a fun fall season. I liked our progress. Offensively, we just kept getting better. I felt like tonight and in this week the freshmen have gotten more aggressive in the way they are playing the game. They are playing with more confidence. I loved seeing that. That is encouraging. We are coming together as a team. I like what I saw this fall and I thought we worked hard."
