INDIAN WELLS, CA –Senior Jordi Arconada of Texas A&M men's tennis advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships Thursday afternoon at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California.
No. 36 Arconada defeated No. 43 Alexis Galarneau of NC State, after going up 3-0 in the first set Galarneau was forced to retire due to sickness. Arconada will take on No. 10 Skander Mansouri (WF) in Friday's Round of 16, the winner will play in the quarterfinals later in the day.
Arconada earned the No. 15 seed at the premier fall tournament of the collegiate tennis season after an impressive fall campaign. The right-hander advanced to the ITA Regional semifinals in College Station before falling to No. 40 Johannes Schretter of Baylor.
No. 93 Valentin Vacherot fell 6-4, 7-6(4) to No. 101 Walker Duncan of Georgia in Thursday's consolation draw first round. The Frenchman earned a berth in the Fall Championships after advancing to the ITA Men's All-American Championship consolation finals earlier this month in Tulsa, Oklahoma
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features a 64-player singles draw, while doubles consist of a 32-team draw. Matches will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.
